Not Quite a Gaggle of Geese

November 8, 2016

In July of 2012, three domestic, white geese were abandoned in a city riparian area, in Missoula. The City of Missoula contacted a pest control service, who then called AniMeals to help with the capture and placement. We were informed that these geese would be destroyed if we could not take them. Of course in our eyes that was not an option.

Half an hour later we were at the pond with the largest dog crates we had. Now you know that geese can be testy at times, and this time was no different. After much “wrangling” on our part, and much squawking (at the top of their lungs) on the part of the geese, we were successful.

Now what? It’s two thirty in the afternoon on a Friday! What in the world are we going to do with three very stressed out geese? We are a cat shelter for Heaven’s sake!

We raced back to the shelter and hurriedly put up a post on Face Book that read: “Now that the three geese are in our possession, we are desperately looking for a good home for them.  We don’t want them to go to somebody’s dinner table–they must be kept as pets.  We want them to live their lives, happily, on Old MacDonald’s farm.  Does anybody know Old MacDonald?”

The phone rang within minutes. The voice on the other end of the line said

“This is Old MacDonald. I can be there in 45 minutes.”

And they all lived happily ever after.
